It’s well known that Russell Wilson is a unique personality, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he apparently wasted no time in stockpiling Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise after signing with the team as a free agent during the offseason.

Appearing on the Scoop City podcast (starts at 35:00 mark), Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward explained that Wilson went to the official team store and purchased “a lot” of gear even though he could get it for free from the club.

Wilson’s excitement to join the Steelers is understandable. He was coming off a disastrous two-year run with the Denver Broncos, including a 2023 season where there seemed to be an instant disconnect with head coach Sean Payton.

The Steelers gave Wilson a chance to rebound and extend his career when they signed him to a one-year contract in March. He seems to have integrated himself into the organization well, especially now that he’s playing after missing time due to a calf injury.

Wilson is 2-0 with 542 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in two games. There have always been some weird and awkward elements about his public personality. He’s been running fake pregame huddles on the field before games for years.

Since the Steelers are 6-2 and in first place in the AFC North right now, the vibes with Wilson under center are all positive.

Steelers fans should just enjoy it, in much the same way that Wilson will enjoy all of the merchandise he purchased from the team shop.
