PARK RAPIDS — The Willmar girls golf team had a strong performance in the 8AAAA Presection Meet on Friday at Headwaters Golf Club.
Willmar took second with 331 strokes, nine behind Alexandria’s 322.
Kennedy Mara and Lucia Martin Rodriguez of Willmar and Alexandria’s Rachel Bowen and Cadence Simon all tied for second with 78s.
Brainerd’s Madelyn Holmstrom won with a 77.
“(The) girls played another excellent round and (took) second …,” Willmar head coach Bryan Mara said. “I am super proud of how the girls competed in the last two days.”
Willmar won the St. Cloud Invitational title on Thursday.
Willmar has a Central Lakes Conference meet scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Rich-Spring Golf Course in Cold Spring.

Willmar wound up sixth in the 8AAA Presection Meet at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre.
Willmar shot a 313. Alexandria won with a 295 and Sartell took second with a 298.
Rocori’s Drew Austin won with a 67. Sartell’s Sam Lunde was second with a 70. Willmar’s Aden Jacobson tied for sixth with a 74.
Willmar plays in a meet in which Dassel-Cokato is the host at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.

Cretin-Derham Hall is in first place with a 291 after the first day of the two-day Northwest Classic at Detroit Country Club in Detroit Lakes.
New London-Spicer is in sixth place with a 312 in the 16-team tournament. Edina is in second with a 299 and Detroit Lakes is in third with a 301.
Jack Schmitz of Anoka and Luke Ehmke of East Ridge are tired for first place with 70s. Sam Udovich of Cretin-Derham Hall is right behind with a 71 and five golfers shot 72s.
The Wildcats’ Reid Kath, Max Truscinski and Gabe Truscinski are all tied for 19th place with 77s.
Round 2 resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday back at Detroit Country Club.

Rylie Harrier earned medalist honors with a 43. The Wildcats’ Evangeline Dalton and Layna Carlson tied for second with 46s and Hattie Bohlsen was fourth with a 49.
The NLS girls next play in the Wright County Conference West Division tournament at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Litchfield Golf Club.

The Dawson-Boyd boys and girls wound up with first-place finishes at the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Invitational at Tyler Golf Club.
The Blackjacks boys shot a 305 to beat Lac qui Parle Valley and Sleepy Eye United, which each shot 324s.
Renville County West’s Ryan Schupp took first with a 72. Carson Besonen of LQPV was second with a 73. Dawson-Boyd’s Evan Mork and Drew Hjelmeland tied with Sleepy Eye United’s Nolan Kucera for third place. All scored 75s.
In the girls’ division, Dawson-Boyd shot a 327. LQPV was second with 378.
The Blackjacks’ Lindsey Lund took first place with a 78. Teammate Kylar Hjelmeland was second with an 80.

Minnewaska’s Thatcher Sherlin and Lakeville South’s Oliver Theel are in a tie for first place following Round 1 of the Minnewaska Invitational at Minnewaska Golf Club in Glenwood.
Sherlin and Theel both carded 73s, as Lakeville South had its top four golfers all finish in the top four to help the Cougars total the lowest strokes in Round 1 at 307.
Rogers is in second with a 219 and Minnewaska is in third at 231. New London-Spicer is in fourth with a 345 and Litchfield is in eighth at 357.
Round 2 is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday back at Minnewaska Golf Club in Glenwood.
