The Jets enter the 2025 NFL Draft with a belief in Justin Fields as the starting quarterback, according to general manager Darren Mougey.

“We believe Justin is the starter,” Mougey told reporters Sunday at the 2025 NFL Owners Meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. “We believe in Justin. We believe we can win with Justin. So we’re excited about Justin’s potential.”

New York signed Fields, 26, to a two-year, $40 million contract earlier in the month. The 2021 NFL Draft’s No. 11 overall picks joins Gang Green after stints with the Chicago Bears (2021-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2024).

What does the Jets’ Fields signing mean for the quarterback position and the draft? Mougey said that “it doesn’t change” New York’s “approach.”

“Just like any position, we’re going to evaluate the quarterbacks — the entire class,” Mougey said. “And that’s the same for every position. It doesn’t change our approach. We’ll have those meetings and evaluate every quarterback in the draft.”

While Fields arrives with confidence and projects as the Jets’ starter, New York has the No. 7 overall pick.

“I don’t know who we’re going to take at seven,” Mougey said. “We’re going to have those meetings next month.”

Less than a month remains until the draft, which kicks off April 24, and Mougey said that he feels “good” about Gang Green’s options.

“I feel good,” Mougey said. “It’s wide open right now. We’re going to really dive into that next week when we get back and for the entire month, but I feel good about the options that could be there at seven right now.”
