The New York Giants are signing center Brenden Jaimes (pronounced “HIGH-miss”), per a report from Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
Jaimes, 27, was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers out of Nebraska in the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent the first four years of his career on the Chargers, notably spending 2024 under Jim Harbaugh and Giants Senior Offensive Assistant Greg Roman. He signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2025, but was released in final cutdowns and spent the 2025 season on the New England Patriots’ practice squad.

He has appeared in 50 games over the course of his career, primarily as a special teams player, but also providing depth at guard and center.
The decision to sign Jaimes comes as starting center John Michael Schmitz suffered some sort of head injury in practice, with head coach John Harbaugh saying Schmitz had his “bell rung”. At the same time, reserve center Lucas Patrick is dealing with a knee injury.
Jaimes’ experience with Greg Roman on the Chargers’ roster and Brian Callahan in the Titans’ training camp means he is likely at least familiar with the Giants’ blocking schemes and offensive terminology. That should allow him to step in and keep practice moving while Schmitz and Patrick recover.
The Giants waived cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse with an injury designation, presumably as a corresponding roster move to officially sign Jaimes.
The Giants have yet to officially announce the signing of Jaimes, and we’ll update once a signing is officially announced.
