New York Giants president, CEO and co-owner John Mara announced on Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Mara stated that he will remain active with the team throughout his treatment and that he is “feeling strong and optimistic.” The 70-year-old also expressed his gratitude for the “incredible support” that he has received.

Mara took over the team’s presidency in 2005 after the death of his father, former Giants owner Wellington Mara. The Mara family has owned the franchise since Tim Mara, Wellington’s Mara’s father, founded the team in 1925.
