In his young career, Gable Steveson has already produced many successful and varied fighting accomplishments.

The former college star wrestler was considered the best wrestler in the country when he attended Minnesota, and he lived up to the hype. However, since his time in college ended, Steveson has been searching for a long-term home as an athlete in a few different leagues.

Steveson’s latest is in mixed martial arts, where he believes he can thrive in the transition from wrestling. The young fighter already has an impressive list of accomplishments both nationally and internationally to which he can add on in the UFC.

Here’s a look at Steveson’s varied career timeline so far.

NCAA wrestling

Steveson was a college wrestler at the University of Minnesota, where he produced one of the best careers in college wrestling history. Steveson attended Minnesota from 2018-22, and returned as a graduate student in 2024-25, collecting a large number of accomplishments in those five seasons.

Over the course of his college career, Steveson went 103-3 in matches with a .972 winning percentage, was 59-0 in dual competition and went 44-0 in the Big Ten. At one point, Steveson won 70-straight matches, the second-longest streak in Minnesota history.

In total, Steveson was five-time All-American and two-time National Champion, winning it all with the Golden Gophers in 2021 and 2022. He also had four top-three finishes at the NCAA Championships and was a four-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree.

Olympic wrestling

At the Summer Olympics in 2021, Steveson represented the United States in Tokyo and ultimately won a gold medal in the Men’s Freestyle 125kg event. It marked the fifth time that Steveson won a gold medal in wrestling, as he previously won golds in the U17 World Championships, U20 World Championships and the Pan American Championships.

Pro wrestling

While he was still in college, but after his success at the Tokyo Olympics, Steveson attempted to make a career as a professional wrestler. His first pro wrestling appearance came at WWE SummerSlam on August 21, 2021, and he was part of the 2021 WWE Draft.

Steveson made a few more appearances at WWE events over the next few years, but his storyline never caught on with viewers. In 2024, he was released from his WWE contract as he wasn’t the right fit with the organization.

NFL tryout

After the attempt to join the WWE, Steveson switched gears to the NFL and signed with the Buffalo Bills in the 2024 offseason. He spent training camp with Buffalo trying to make it as a defensive lineman, but the team released him before the season began.

Mixed martial arts

Most recently, Steveson has made a move to MMA as he searches for a home post-college. Steveson made his MMA debut in September of 2025 and has appeared in three fights since, all wins and all by TKO.

How old is Gable Steveson?

Gable Steveson was born on May 31, 2000, making him 26 years old as he approaches his fourth MMA fight.

Steveson’s biggest career accomplishment, a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, came when he was just 21 years old.
