If Scottie Scheffler is going to snap his 0-for-2025 streak, posting a 10-under 61 to start the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson is a great first step.
Scheffler birdied the ninth hole Thursday at TPC Craig Ranch to make the turn in 29 and then closed with a pair of birdies to shoot 61, his second lowest score on the PGA Tour, second only to the 59 he shot five years ago.
That score vaulted him into solo first after 18 holes and past the duo of Rico Hoey and Jhonattan Vegas, who shot matching 8-under 63s earlier in the day. Cameron Champ is tied for fourth with five others at 7 under. Champ wasn’t even in the field until Wednesday when Gary Woodland had to withdraw.
The purse at the Byron Nelson is $9.9 million, with $1.782 million going to the winner.
There are also 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs for this week’s champ.
