Frankie Muniz, the former child star who calls the Phoenix area home, is in line to drive in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway next month.

Muniz will likely need to qualify to make the championship race based on the number of entries, according to information from NASCAR track communications. He is not in the running for the Truck Series title though he could still make it into the race.

Muniz told “People” magazine in an article published Tuesday that he is joining Reaume Brothers Racing as a full-time driver of the No. 33 Ford F-150 in the upcoming 2025 season of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

But before that, Muniz will appear at NASCAR Championship Weekend in Avondale on Nov. 8. He is scheduled to race in this Saturday’s Trucks race in Homestead, Florida, south of Miami, where he can qualify for the Phoenix race.

Even if that attempt fails, Muniz could still qualify Nov. 8 in Avondale.

After racing full time in the ARCA Menard’s Series last year, Muniz, according to ESPN, has competed in two Xfinity Series races and two Trucks races in 2024. His best finish was in 29th in the Trucks race at Kansas on Sept. 27.

Muniz, 38, was the star of the TV sitcom “Malcom in the Middle” in the early 2000s. He entered the world of stock car racing in 2006, but had to step away due to back and wrist injuries in 2009.

An Arizona Cardinals fan who often is spotted at other area sports events, Muniz returned to racing last year with the NASCAR-operated Menard’s Series.
