Now that we are approaching August, most of this year’s top UFAs have found their new homes. However, there are still some notable players who have not signed their next contracts.
When it comes to the remaining UFA goalies, a former Sabres netminder is among the most notable: James Reimer

Reimer remains a UFA after spending this past season with the Ottawa Senators. In 14 games with Ottawa in 2025-26, he posted a 7-4-2 record, an .886 save percentage, and a 2.42 goals-against average. Overall, he was a serviceable backup for the Senators, and it is fair to wonder if he could get another deal from a team looking for more goalie depth.
With the Sabres having Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Alex Lyon, and Colten Ellis all on their NHL roster, a reunion with Reimer is highly unlikely. However, he could be a good addition for another team that is looking for a backup or third-string goalie.
Reimer appeared in 22 games with the Sabres during the 2024-25 season, where he posted a 10-8-2 record, an .899 save percentage, a 2.90 goals-against average, and one shutout.
