On Tuesday, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced the names on the 2027 Ballot under consideration for induction into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame. The 2027 ballot includes 80 players and nine coaches from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 99 players and 39 coaches from the NCAA divisional and NAIA ranks.
Two very notable names, former LSU Cornerback Patrick Peterson and Offensive Guard Alan Faneca, were chosen to be placed on the 2027 ballots.
Faneca, a New Orleans native, was a 1997 consensus First Team All-American and LSU’s first-ever Outland Trophy finalist. He is also a two-time First Team All-SEC selection and was named the 1997 Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner, helping the Tigers lead the SEC in rushing his final two seasons.

Selected in the 1st round (26th overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1998 NFL Draft, Faneca spent 9 seasons in Pittsburgh before signing with the New York Jets and followed by the Arizona Cardinals. He retired from the NFL on May 10, 2011, ending his professional career with a total of 9 Pro Bowl appearances, 8 All-Pro selections and a Super Bowl XL Champion. On August 9, 2021, Faneca was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Peterson was a 2010 unanimous First Team All-American and the first LSU player to win both the Bednarik and Jim Thorpe awards. He was also the first player in SEC history to win both SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Special Teams Player of the Year after leading the league in punt and kickoff return yards and scoring touchdowns three different ways (INT, punt return and blocked field goal)
Following his time at LSU, Peterson was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1st round (5th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft. After 10 seasons in Arizona, he joined the Minnesota Vikings and then the Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring from the NFL on April 11, 2025.
The announcement of the 2027 NFF Hall of Fame Class will be made January with the induction ceremony taking place in December of 2027 during the NFF Annual Awards Dinner.
