The Kentucky basketball team features some of the best athletes in the world. They can jump higher and run faster than 99% of the people living across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Athleticism alone does not make one a great golfer. It was abundantly clear when the Kentucky basketball team got out the sticks and hit the links for a round of golf this summer.

Mark Pope recruited Mo Dioubate to Kentucky because of his range, physicality, and freakish athleticism. The former Alabama forward looked like he had stepped on a golf course before while rocking the SEC ball cap. Then he picked a golf club. Everything went south from there.

The lefty was there to drive the golf cart, not actually hit the ball. He wasn’t the only one who struggled to make contact, but by the end of the round, he even surprised himself.

A few players showed some proficiency with a golf club in their hands at Keene Trace Golf Club. Braydon Hawthorne and Brandon Garrison made solid contact. Jasper Johnson sank a putt. It’s clear that Reece Potter knows his way around a golf course, but the Real MVP was Collin Chandler, who got to flex on his teammates with a long birdie putt. His swing is pure.

These Wildcats are here to hang banners, not score low on the links. Nevertheless, it’s clear they had some fun in the sun earlier this summer during an entertaining team-bonding session that is becoming an annual tradition for Mark Pope’s program.
