The highly anticipated rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao remains in limbo, despite a Friday report claiming the contrary.

The bout was initially announced for Sept. 19 and was expected to be held at Las Vegas’ Sphere, with Netflix set as a broadcaster. After encountering several issues and confusion regarding the bout, the Sphere then booked an Eagles concert on the same Sept. 19 date, putting the boxing rematch further in jeopardy.

Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger reported Friday that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 had been rescheduled for Sept. 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, however ESPN and other sources have since refuted that report. Per ESPN, a Sept. 25 date at the T-Mobile Arena and a Sept. 26 date at the MGM Grand Garden Arena remain “under consideration,” but multiple details regarding the proposed fight have yet to be finalized.

Since the rematch was announced, there have been disputes over whether the fight will be professional bout or an exhibition; if it is a professional bout, Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 record would be in jeopardy — a factor that has been a non-negotiable for Pacquiao.

Mayweather and Pacquiao initially fought on May 2, 2015. At the time, Mayweather was 47-0 in his professional boxing career and picked up the unanimous victory 118-110, 116-112, 116-112. The loss dropped Pacquiao to 57-6-2 in his career.

As with most big-time boxing matches, fans clamored for a rematch. In February 2026, Netflix announced the long-awaited second clash between Pacquiao and Mayweather would take place in September.

Since retiring in 2017, Mayweather has had several exhibition fights that have not counted toward his record but have generated paydays. The Hall of Fame boxer also recently filed a lawsuit against Showtime, seeking compensation for alleged “misappropriated funds and punitive damages,” and was hit by a $7.3 million lien by the IRS over alleged unpaid taxes from 2018 and 2023 — with both situations further inflaming recent rumblings over potential money problems for Mayweather.

Pacquiao stopped boxing in 2021, but finally returned to the ring in 2025. His match against then-champion Mario Barrios was ruled a majority draw, and he hasn’t boxed since. Pacquiao said after his bout with Barrios that he would be fighting in January 2026, but that didn’t come to fruition with all eyes now on the rematch with Mayweather.
