As of July 1, 2025, Florida’s new “super speeder” law is officially in effect. What that means is that any driver caught going 50 miles per hour or more over the speed limit—or exceeding 100 miles per hour—faces a mandatory 30-day jail sentence and a $500 fine for a first offense.

Just over a month since the super speeder law took effect, more than 70 drivers across Florida have already been penalized.

According to WFTV9 Orlando—as uncovered by Carscoops—49 drivers were cited for speeds over 100 mph, while 22 were caught exceeding the speed limit by at least 50 mph. Half of these “super speeder” violations occurred in Volusia County, ironically, home to the Daytona International Speedway.

Some drivers have been clocked at extreme speeds of 116, 120, 135, and even 140 mph. One Honda Civic driver claimed he thought the trooper was “trying to race him,” while another said he was simply running late for work. Motorcyclists aren’t immune either—two were cited for going 87 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The most serious violation so far came from a 20-year-old driving a Dodge Challenger, who was arrested in Orlando for going 155 mph in a 60 mph zone—an astonishing 95 mph over the posted limit.

“Ninety-five over the posted limit—that is a missile going down the interstate,” Lieutenant Tara Crescenzi told Fox 35 Orlando. “It can kill someone.”

In an interview with WFTV9, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson admitted they did not expect to see so many arrests and citations so soon after the new super speeder law took effect.

With 71 drivers already cited in just over a month, that number could continue to rise in August and September. Some law enforcement agencies weren’t even able to access the new violation code in their systems until mid-July.
