  • Nissan teases an all-new Skyline.
  • It has round taillights and ‘Skyline’ script on the rear fender.
  • It will spawn an Infiniti version in the United States.

Nissan has already confirmed that it is developing a new Skyline outside of the US. It’s expected to debut soon, and the automaker is providing our first look at the upcoming sport sedan.

The car has vertical front lighting elements and an angular face. Last year, Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s global design director, said that the Skyline would be “inspired by the past,” but not a “retro-styling exercise.”

That inspiration includes keeping the round taillights, which appear to protrude from the rear fascia in the teaser image. It also shows the “Skyline” script on the rear fender. Albaisa added that the car’s design would be “aggressive and modern, with proportions that recall the original.”

While Nissan will not sell the new Skyline in America, an Infiniti performance sedan based on the same platform is expected to be on sale in the United States. It could wear the Q50 or Q60 badge and feature unique front- and rear-end styling.

The Nissan sedan is expected to feature a tuned version of the automaker’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. It produces 420 horsepower in the Z Nismo but is expected to make as much as 450 hp in the Infiniti, which will power the rear wheels and feature a manual transmission. The car will supposedly slot between the Z and the GT-R.

Motor1’s Take: Our first look at Nissan’s new Skyline has us excited for the model. It certainly sounds like it will have the power and platform that enthusiasts want—a rear-wheel-drive, manual-equipped sport sedan—with solid styling that ushers the icon into a new era.
