Lamar Jackson, Christian McCaffrey, Ja’Marr Chase, and Brock Bowers highlight positional rankings for Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season.
**UPDATED AS OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 AT 9 PM ET**
🏈 AFC East
◆ Buffalo Bills
James Cook – RB (hamstring)
Cook appeared on Wednesday’s injury report with a hamstring injury, listed as a limited participant.
Fantasy Impact: We do not know whether Cook suffered the injury in-game against the Ravens or during today’s practice. In the former scenario, he would be on track to play in Week 2. In the latter, backup running back Ray Davis and receiving running back Ty Johnson could both be FLEX-viable. Davis would likely have access to a double-digit workload against the Jets.
Dawson Knox – TE (hip)
Knox was limited on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: If Knox cannot play in Week 2, it would likely add one or more targets to Dalton Kincaid’s workload.
◆ Miami Dolphins
Jaylen Waddle – WR (shoulder)
Waddle was limited in Wednesday‘s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Waddle’s early-week participation puts him on track to play against the Patriots in Week 2.
Darren Waller – TE (hip)
Waller remains sidelined as of Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: Waller is unlikely to be a reliable fantasy contributor even when he returns. He does not need to be rostered in 12-team leagues.
Jaylen Wright – RB (knee)
Wright has not yet returned to practice, as of Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: Fellow Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon turned three Week 1 touches into three yards. Wright could regain the No. 2 running back role upon his return.
◆ New England Patriots
Stefon Diggs – WR (knee)
Diggs played just 41 percent of the team’s offensive snaps (29) in a Week 1 loss as he continues to ramp up his activity levels following a torn ACL in 2024.
Fantasy Impact: Fantasy managers will need to stay patient with the veteran receiver who is playing in his age-32 season. It is likely we see his snap rates continue to tick up, but you would be better off finding an alternative until we see his snap rates return to pre-injury levels.
Kayshon Boutte – WR (shoulder)
Boutte appeared on Wednesday’s injury report as a limited participant after tying for a team-high 19.0 percent target share.
Fantasy Impact: Boutte is on track to play in Week 2 against the Dolphins’ beatable defense. Unless his participation heads in the wrong direction, he is worth starting as a FLEX.
◆ New York Jets
Mason Taylor – TE (ankle)
Taylor was sidelined on Wednesday. The rookie tight end dealt with a high-ankle sprain during training camp. Head coach Aaron Glenn said Taylor has indeed injured the same ankle, though he did not confirm whether it is specifically a re-injury. A low-ankle sprain is possible.
Fantasy Impact: Fantasy managers should expect Taylor to miss time, particularly if this is in fact a high-ankle sprain recurrence. Taylor earned just one target in Week 1, so this is unlikely to meaningfully alter team target shares.
Eric Samulski breaks down his fantasy football defense rankings for Week 2 of the NFL season
🏈 AFC North
◆ Baltimore Ravens
Isaiah Likely – TE (foot)
As of Wednesday, Likely has not yet resumed practicing.
Fantasy Impact: Likely is worth stashing on benches, given tight end Mark Andrews’ Week 1 faceplant. Andrews’ 75.0 percent snap share keeps him in play as a TE1 with Likely sidelined, though things could change once the younger player returns.
◆ Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals emerged from a narrow Week 1 win relatively unscathed.
◆ Cleveland Browns
The Browns avoided any major injuries in a Week 1 loss to the Bengals.
◆ Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers did not suffer any significant injuries in their Week 1 win over the Jets.
🏈 AFC South
◆ Houston Texans
Joe Mixon – RB (foot)
Mixon was placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 1 and will miss the first four weeks of the season, at minimum. He will reportedly be re-evaluated at that time.
Fantasy Impact: Earlier reports indicated veteran Nick Chubb would be utilized as a workhorse back for the Texans for as long as Mixon remained absent, but the team’s actions in Week 1 tell a different story. Chubb handled a 51 percent snap rate and 13 of the team’s 21 running back carries, good for a 61.9 percent backfield share. Mixon remains a shaky bet for fantasy leagues in 2025, while Chubb appears to be nothing more than a potential bye week flex option.
Christian Kirk – WR (hamstring)
Kirk missed Week 1 and could be out longer.
Fantasy Impact: Texans wide receivers, Xavier Hutchinson and Justin Watson, earned just two targets apiece, operating in the team’s Nos. 2 and 3 roles last week. Rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins can be stashed on fantasy benches.
Cade Stover – TE (foot)
The Texans placed Stove on injured reserve today.
Fantasy Impact: Stover will miss at least four games. His absence should add one or two targets to tight end Dalton Schultz’s weekly workload. The uptick is not enough to make Schultz a reliable TE1.
◆ Indianapolis Colts
Michael Pittman Jr. – WR (glute)
Pittman practiced in full on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: This is a new injury, but Pittman’s Week 2 availability does not appear to be in jeopardy.
Alec Pierce – WR (knee)
Pierce practiced in full on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: This is a new injury for Pierce, but his full participation puts him on track to play in Week 2.
◆ Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars’ fantasy-relevant players are healthy.
◆ Tennessee Titans
Tyjae Spears – RB (ankle)
Spears remains on injured reserve as he tends to an ankle injury suffered in the team’s first preseason game.
Fantasy Impact: Backfield mate Tony Pollard saw an 89.0 percent snap rate and handled all but two running back opportunities (18 carries and one target) for the Titans against the Broncos in Week 1. He remains a locked-in RB2 with RB1 upside for as long as Spears remains out.
How Worthy’s absence may affect Chiefs’ receivers
Patrick Daugherty and Kyle Dvorchak report on Xavier Worthy’s shoulder injury and discuss what his potential absence could mean for the other receivers in Kansas City.
🏈 AFC West
◆ Denver Broncos
Evan Engram – TE (calf)
Engram suffered a calf injury in the fourth quarter last week and was sidelined thereafter. He was limited at Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Engram is on track to play in Week 2, but the veteran tight end is no longer a TE1.
◆ Kansas City Chiefs
Xavier Worthy – WR (shoulder)
Worthy did not practice on Wednesday. Worthy is electing to forgo surgery at this time, and is expected to continue playing this season while actively rehabbing his injured shoulder. The process could sideline him in the short term.
Fantasy Impact: Hollywood Brown‘s 14 targets led all Chiefs pass catchers by a nine-target margin in Week 1. He is FLEX-viable in Week 2. JuJu Smith-Schuster can be stashed in PPR leagues for those willing to roll the dice. Tyquan Thornton is also worth stashing. Both players may be agonizingly unreliable.
◆ Las Vegas Raiders
Brock Bowers – TE (knee)
Bowers suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 1 win over the Patriots. He was spotted on the sideline with his helmet on but never returned.
Fantasy Impact: Bowers is reportedly day-to-day following the injury but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is notoriously devious in reporting injuries, giving us some pause regarding his potential Week 2 status. Fantasy managers will want to follow the situation closely and err on the side of practice participation over coaching comments. Any missed time by Bowers would thrust wide receiver Jakobi Meyers into WR2 territory.
◆ Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers avoided any meaningful fantasy injuries in their Week 1 win over the Chiefs.
Travis Etienne and Breece Hall had explosive performances in Week 1 and looked poised to be some of the best fantasy football values of the summer.
🏈 NFC East
◆ Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys emerged from their Week 1 loss to the Eagles without any fantasy relevant injuries.
◆ New York Giants
Malik Nabers – WR (back)
Nabers was limited at Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Nabers is already being treated like a veteran who regularly appears on the injury report but tends to suit up on Sunday without issue.
Wan’Dale Robinson – WR (ankle)
Robinson did not practice on Wednesday, but he is expected to play, per Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
Fantasy Impact: The PPR FLEX weapon should be available for Week 2.
◆ Philadelphia Eagles
Will Shipley – RB (oblique)
Shipley’s Week 1 injury has turned into quite the saga. The Eagles acquired running back Tank Bigsby via trade on Monday. Reports on Tuesday indicated that Shipley had fractured a rib. The team’s official injury report lists it as an oblique issue. He did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Should Shipley miss time, both Bigsby and running back A.J. Dillon are candidates to replace him in the No. 2 role. Bigsby should be prioritized as a bench stash.
Dallas Goedert – TE (knee)
Goedert did not practice on Wednesday and his status is said to be “up in the air” for Week 2.
Fantasy Impact: The knee sprain is not expected to be a long-term issue. Backup tight end Grant Calcaterra is the next player up. He can only be treated as a dart-throw TE2. Targets will likely shift toward the Eagles’ wide receiver trio instead, if Goedert misses time.
◆ Washington Commanders
Jayden Daniels – QB (right wrist)
Daniels was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 2 against the Packers. He practiced in full all week.
Fantasy Impact: Daniels’ early-week participation suggests this is a non-issue, however, it is worth monitoring. Daniels is right-handed. He remains an elite QB1 until further notice.
Bigsby trade boosts Etienne stock, hampers Shipley
Denny Carter and Patrick Daugherty explain why the Eagles went out to get RB Tank Bigsby from the Jags and how it affects the fantasy viability of Travis Etienne Jr. in Jacksonville and Will Shipley in Philly.
🏈 NFC North
◆ Chicago Bears
DJ Moore – WR (abdomen/groin)
Moore took a hard hit to his midsection in Week 1, but he was on the field for Wednesday’s practice and promisingly participated fully.
Fantasy Impact: Moore should be good to go for Week 2 against the Lions.
Roschon Johnson – RB (foot)
Johnson resumed practicing on Wednesday, ending his extended absence.
Fantasy Impact: The bad news is that Bears head coach Ben Johnson said he wants to get running back Kyle Monangai more involved today. It’s unclear which running back holds the No. 2 role.
◆ Detroit Lions
The Lions emerged from their Week 1 loss to the Packers absent any major injuries.
◆ Green Bay Packers
The Packers’ three wide receivers who were on the injury report include Jayden Reed (foot), Matthew Golden (ankle) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf). All three will play in Week 2 against the Commanders.
◆ Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings did not suffer any fantasy-relevant injuries in their Week 1 win over the Bears.
🏈 NFC South
◆ Atlanta Falcons
Drake London – WR (shoulder)
London was limited in Wednesday’s practice and is expected to play in Week 2 against the Vikings.
Fantasy Impact: London’s early-week participation is a good sign. If he were severely injured, the team would likely keep him working off to the side, on a separate field.
Darnell Mooney – WR (shoulder)
Mooney was limited at Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Mooney seemed very close to playing last week, logging three consecutive limited sessions. He has good odds of suiting up in Week 2 and can be treated as a FLEX option with decent upside.
◆ Carolina Panthers
Hunter Renfrow – WR (ribs)
Renfrow was limited at Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy Impact: Renfrow should be active this weekend, but the veteran slot receiver is no more than a shaky FLEX option.
◆ New Orleans Saints
The Saints did not experience any fantasy relevant injuries in their Week 1 loss to the Cardinals.
◆ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jalen McMillan – WR (neck)
McMillan remains on injured reserve with a neck injury suffered in preseason.
Fantasy Impact: McMillan’s absence paved the way for rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka to see featured usage in the offense right out of the gate. The talented rookie remains in the weekly WR2 discussion after dropping a 4-67-2 line against the Falcons.
Jones can be ‘point guard’ for SF if Purdy is out
With injuries stacking up on the San Francisco 49ers offense including QB Brock Purdy, Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter assess Mac Jones’ fantasy viability and his potential impact on 49ers skill position players.
🏈 NFC West
◆ Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals were not subject to any substantial injuries in their Week 1 win over the Saints.
◆ Los Angeles Rams
The Rams emerged from their Week 1 win over the Texans absent any fantasy-relevant injuries.
◆ San Francisco 49ers
Christian McCaffrey – RB (calf, rest)
McCaffrey did not practice on Wednesday, though he was also listed with a “rest” designation.
Fantasy impact: McCaffrey can be expected to suit up again in Week 2 after handling 31 touches while nursing the calf injury last week.
George Kittle – TE (hamstring)
The 49ers placed Kittle on injured reserve Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.
Fantasy impact: The 49ers are dealing with multiple key injuries. It is difficult to make up for Kittle’s lost production with any remaining 49ers tight end, meaning fantasy managers will want to look elsewhere until Kittle returns. Running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall stand to benefit in what has become a decimated skill position group.
Brock Purdy – QB (shoulder, toe)
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy is a “long shot” to play in Week 2 against the Saints. Purdy did not practice on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: Backup quarterback Mac Jones is not a starter in 12-team leagues, but he is certainly worth adding in two-quarterback formats. Christian McCaffrey can be expected to handle another elite workload in Week 2, with Jones under center. Jones’ successes as the Jaguars’ fill-in starter last year keep Ricky Pearsall firmly on the WR3 radar.
Jauan Jennings – WR (shoulder)
Jennings did not practice on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact: The 49ers recently brought back wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on a one-year deal. Bourne could return WR5/FLEX value if Jennings is unable to play.
◆ Seattle Seahawks
Jake Bobo – WR (concussion)
Bobo is practicing in full for Week 2.
Fantasy Impact: This is great news for Sam Darnold, who is in desperate need of capable pass catchers. Bobo is not on the WR4/FLEX radar, but he can help the offense move the ball downfield, which was an issue for them at times last week.
