Tiger Woods made a rare public appearance this week, and his noticeably different appearance immediately became a major talking point among golf fans.
The 15-time major champion has largely remained out of public view since a rollover crash in March that resulted in Woods being charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Police reportedly found two opioid tablets in his pocket following the crash.
Woods subsequently spent time in rehabilitation in Switzerland before returning to the United States. Since returning, however, the golf legend has managed to stay almost completely away from cameras.

That changed Tuesday night.
Woods appeared in a pre-recorded video shown during a ceremony honoring fellow golf icon Notah Begay III, who was receiving the Payne Stewart Award. The message aired on The Golf Channel and soon began circulating across social media.
For many viewers, the biggest surprise was seeing Woods again after months outside the spotlight. Others quickly focused on how different the 50-year-old appeared.
“Tiger looks a shell of his former self, sadly,” one viewer wrote.
Another asked, “What’s going on with the Big Cat? Looks different for sure.”
Fans React to Tiger’s Appearance
The reactions continued as the footage spread.
“Looking sober, but damn he’s aged,” a third person commented, while another declared, “Tiger looks unrecognizable.”
Some viewers had a different assessment, pointing to what they believed was a thinner appearance. One wrote, “He looks skinnier!” Another offered a more pointed reaction: “Nice to see him not high for once.”
The video comes at an important moment for Woods, who is in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, as his legal case stemming from the March crash moves toward its next stage.
Court Date Approaches After March Crash
Earlier this week, it was reported that Woods is scheduled to make his first courtroom appearance in connection with the case on September 8, roughly five months after the rollover crash.
That appearance had reportedly been postponed multiple times while prosecutors continued investigating the case in South Florida.
Attorney Douglas Duncan will represent Woods. He previously waived his arraignment and requested a jury trial.
For a golfer who spent decades appearing regularly before enormous television audiences, Woods has become an unusually scarce presence in recent months. That made even a brief, pre-recorded tribute enough to draw immediate scrutiny.
