Atlanta Falcons kicker Parker Romo has had a busy week since being elevated from the practice squad, and he didn’t have enough time to meet all of his new teammates.
After the Falcons’ win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, he had his first introduction to linebacker Leonard Floyd. During a postgame interview with NBC’s Melissa Stark, Romo admitted that he knew running back Bijan Robinson’s name, but not Floyd’s. The two proceeded to have a formal introduction.
Though Romo isn’t quite familiar with all of his teammates just yet, it appears he’ll be sticking around for a while, which will give him the chance to learn everyone’s name.
The Falcons elevated Romo after benching Younghoe Koo, who missed a game-winning field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Romo made the most of his first opportunity with Atlanta, hitting all five of his field goals and an extra point.
Romo, who played collegiately for Central Arkansas, Tulsa and Virginia Tech, went undrafted in 2022 and has spent time on a handful of NFL practice squads. He also made a stop in the XFL.
Romo got his first opportunity in the NFL with the Vikings last year, hitting 11 of his 12 field goals and seven of his eight extra points. He was ultimately out of a job once the injured Will Reichard returned.
While he hasn’t established himself as an everyday kicker just yet, he played well on Sunday and can earn a permanent job if he keeps hitting his field goals.
