Ex-Arsenal Edu lands new job in Bulgaria

Former Arsenal player and director Edu Gaspar has officially joined Levski Sofia in Bulgaria, following his departure from Nottingham Forest.

Levski Sofia have officially confirmed the arrival of Edu Gaspar as an addition to the club’s new five-person board of directors.

The Athletic highlight that The Bulgarian club haven’t specified the exact role Edu will have, though it seems he’ll be part of the decision-making process to elect a new chairman and executive director.

Edu had only officially left Nottingham Forest a week earlier, and he spoke to the media following his appointment by Levski Sofia.

“I am sure that I can contribute to this project,” Edu said. “For me, it is a new country, new friends, a new owner. That makes me excited. That is why I am here. I am very excited to be part of this project.

“We have just become champions and are playing in the Europa League. We are not starting from scratch. We are doing well, but we need to take the best possible steps to develop further.

“We have to have ambition, but we also have to be realistic. We cannot promise things that we cannot fulfill. Every year this club has to think about how to become better. Every season we have to be better and make better transfers. To have more points. That is how we will reach the highest level.”

Edu was working for Forest as their global head of football, but he didn’t last long in the position. He was only officially appointed in July 2025, and by March 2026, reports suggested an internal decision had been made to part ways.

It took a long time for those reports to come to fruition, but Edu finally left his Forest position last week on Monday.

Tom Hamilton reported for ESPN that Edu didn’t play an active role in Forest’s summer transfer window, which is unsurprising considering reports in March suggested he’d been told to stay away from the club and the training ground.

But it seems he now has a key position with his new club, who kick off their Europa League campaign at home to RB Salzburg on Thursday, September 17th.
