Howie Roseman pulled off his third trade of the day Sunday night, shipping reserve offensive lineman Darian Kinnard to the Packers for a 6th-round pick.
Kinnard, who worked at both guard and tackle in training camp, spent his first two seasons with the Chiefs and last year with the Eagles. He and Ken Norton are the only players in NFL history to win Super Bowl rings three straight seasons. Norton actually played in all three. Kinnard didn’t play in any of them.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles traded a 2026 5th-round pick and a 2027 7th-round pick to the Vikings for quarterback Sam Howell and a 2026 6th-round pick and traded a 7th-round pick to the Jaguars for swing tackle Fred Johnson.
It was the acquisition of Johnson that rendered Kinnard expendable. Johnson can play both tackle spots. He hasn’t played guard recently but has played there. The move could be interpreted as the Eagles feeling confident that left guard Landon Dickerson will be ready for opening day with his knee injury. Because would they trade one of their top backup guards if he wasn’t going to be ready? But that’s pure speculation.
The Eagles initially signed Kinnard to a futures contract after the 2023 Super Bowl. He played in two games last year – three snaps at the end of the Bengals game and 68 in the meaningless season-ender vs. the Giants.
With Johnson in and Kinnard out, the Eagles still have 10 offensive linemen on the roster behind the five starters: Kendall Lamm, Myles Hinton, Hollin Pierce, Kenyon Green, Brett Toth, Drew Kendall, Matt Pryor, Trevor Keegan, Cameron Williams and Laekin Vakalahi.
Earlier this month, the Eagles traded interior defensive lineman Thomas Booker to the Raiders for cornerback Jakorian Bennett and shipped tight end Harrison Bryant and a 5th-round pick to the Texans for wide receiver John Metchie III and a 6th-round pick.
This is the first time since Roseman became general manager after the 2009 season that he’s traded for five players in the same month. This is the first time since at least 1995 the Eagles have acquired five players via trade in the same month.
Roster cutdown to 53 must be made by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
