GRAND FORKS — Steady was the main description for Dustin Fanfulik this weekend at the Greater Grand Forks All City Championship.

The 35-year-old East Grand Forks graduate shot two rounds of 71, then beat two other golfers in a one-hole playoff to secure the championship at King’s Walk on Sunday.

Fanfulik, a 2008 Green Wave graduate, finished with a two-day total of 142, which tied both Ryan Ames and Josh Bergrud.

Bergrud, the All City Championship defending champion, entered the day with a three-shot lead on Fanfulik and a five-shot lead on Ames.

Ames was the only sub-70 round on Sunday, firing a 69 to force the three-way tie.

The playoff hole came on No. 1, where Fanfulik bested the two others to claim his first All City Championship.

“I was pretty steady most of the day,” Fanfulik said. “Josh made a few birdies late to tie it up. We knew we needed birdie on 18 to advance.”

Fanfulik hit a 4-foot birdie to force the playoff. The course saw drizzle and wind for parts of the round but was calm for the last few holes.

Fanfulik, who mostly plays at Valley Golf Course but is plenty familiar over the years with King’s Walk, hit his drive on the playoff hole up the right side into rough but had a good angle to the pin. He then hit a wedge to within a make-able putt.

Fanfulik said the weekend was mostly an extension of recent play.

“I’ve been pretty steady all summer,” he said. “It hasn’t been great but I’ve been making a lot of pars and limiting big numbers has been the key.”

Fanfulik said a windy course played into his strengths.

“Going into today, I knew it was going to be an uphill battle,” he said. “The wind leveled the playing field.”

Josh Bergrud hits out of the sand on #12 at King’s Walk Sunday during the Greater Grand Forks All-City Championship.

Matt Norby and Colytn Sanderson tied for sixth at 146, followed by Grand Forks Red River’s Kolby Koerner at 148.

The men’s Senior Championship went to Brad Segall, who shot 149 to edge Larry Sloan at 150.

The women’s title went to Liz Olson in a runaway finish. Olson shot 71 and 72 to finish at 143. Morgan Hetletved was 10 shots back at 153 and Amanda Voigt was 14 shots back at 157.

The men’s first flight champion was Nate Moen at 149, while Evan Pederson was the second flight champion at 159.
