Durham full-back Grace Ayre has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Durham academy system. She has made the successful step up into the first team in recent years and is one of the most highly-regarded full-backs in Barclays WSL2.

Ayre has made 76 appearances for Durham in all competitions. She was a member of the side that flirted with promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League this season before eventually ending the campaign in fourth position.

With Durham chasing the top flight dream, Ayre has a huge part to play and the club have therefore opted to retain her services for the long-term.

After signing on again at Maiden Castle, Ayre said “I’m really happy to commit my future here at Durham. I’ve been here for eight years now and I’m really happy, it feels like home here. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“Last season was a really good season for us. We had hopes and aspirations at the beginning of the season and we tried to put them into play. I think everyone’s aspiration this year will be to finish in the top two, top three and get promoted. That should be everyone’s goal and I’m really excited to get going.”

Further Durham squad news will be announced by the club in due course.
