New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees knows a thing or two about playing quarterback. When he retired, Brees held the record for most passing touchdowns of all time. While that record no longer stands, Brees’ credentials can’t be questioned.
So when Brees spoke critically about the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense Tuesday, that drew some attention. While making an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take,” Brees said he can’t stand watching the Eagles because they have “the most boring offense.”

Brees made those comments after being asked about some quarterbacks who are excelling this season. He mentioned both Jordan Love and Dak Prescott before being stopped by Stephen A. Smith, who brought up Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Brees explained his rationale, saying, “I respect Philly. They are winning games. They are finding a way to win games. I can’t stand to watch that offense. It’s the most boring offense. It is. I’m sorry.”
For anyone questioning whether Brees was capable of providing the hot takes necessary to hang with Smith on “First Take,” you now have your answer.
While Brees’ comments won’t go over well in Philadelphia — where the Eagles are a perfect 3-0 — Eagles fans should be able to admit the offense hasn’t fully hit its stride yet this season. Despite some high-scoring games over the first three weeks of the season, Hurts was held to 152 passing yards in Week 1 and 101 passing yards in Week 2.

That’s not necessarily a criticism of Hurts, but more a comment on how the Eagles seemingly want to win games. The team is content to mostly run the ball, which isn’t a bad strategy considering it has Saquon Barkley in the backfield. Through three games, Hurts ranks 26th among quarterbacks with 77 passing attempts.
But when the Eagles have been put in a position where the team needs to pass to win, Hurts has succeeded. He threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s Week 3 comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams. Hurts also dazzled against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, earning MVP honors.
It’s important to note that “boring” doesn’t mean “bad.” The Eagles may not do a ton on offense that Brees finds impressive, but it works for them. Until other teams prove they can stop whatever it is that makes the Eagles so successful, Philadelphia doesn’t have much incentive to change things up.
That may not make for the most exciting tape, but the Eagles probably don’t care about that as long as the wins keep piling up.
