The Detroit Lions held a shorter practice on Sunday, but they opted to hold out a bunch of their best players after four days of padded practice last week. It appears to be precautionary with all of them, so don’t get too concerned with the names you see below.
Plus, there is some good news to deliver when it comes to D.J. Reed, Derrick Moore, and Malcolm Rodriguez.

Returned to practice:
Gibbs and Conklin both got some team reps for the first time in training camp. They appear ready to start getting worked into the mix, but it wasn’t a full workload for either player.
Bartch also got some team work, but a very small amount. Coach Dan Campbell said that he hasn’t suffered any setbacks, but he hasn’t quite recovered as expected. Now he needs to make up for some lost time.
“I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t hopeful he would have been out there more than now, but I also know there’s no setbacks, anything like that and he’s a veteran guy,” Campbell said. “From what we know about him and the short time we’ve been around him, he’s a guy that, it means something to him. He’s smart, he’s conscientious, all those things. […] There’s a reason he’s here, we think he brings outstanding competition. He’s got a shot, but certainly he’s behind the mark. I mean, he’s missed some days.”

Appeared to be limited:
-
DT Alim McNeill (undisclosed)
-
EDGE DJ Wonnum (undisclosed)
Now before you panic about this list, it’s worth noting that Campbell said before practice that there were a bunch of “bumps and bruises” on the roster, so they were holding several out as precaution. Hopefully we’ll get some more specific answers on all of these players later in the week.
All of these players were on the field for walkthrough and warmups, but with the exception of Jameson Williams, none appeared to participate in any team drills by our observations. And Williams only got a limited amount of team work.
Working with trainers, not practicing:
-
EDGE Derrick Moore (groin)
-
LB Malcolm Rodriguez (ankle)

It was certainly promising to see Moore back out there. Last we heard from Campbell, he was on a 7-10 day timeline of returning from injury and that was six days ago.
Wingo and Rodriguez have only missed a couple practices, suggesting their injuries are not serious.
Not practicing:
-
G Juice Scruggs (undisclosed)
-
DT Aidan Keanaaina (undisclosed)
Dortch and Clark are two new additions to the absentee list. No update on their conditions was given.
However, Campbell offered positive news on No. 1 cornerback D.J. Reed, who has been sidelined since Thursday.
“That’s not a major issue. We feel good about that. When he’s ready, he’ll be ready to go,” Campbell said.

The news wasn’t as promising for Turner, who hasn’t practiced since the very first day of training camp.
“Yeah, nothing new really,” Campbell said. “I mean, he’s got a back (injury) that we’re just trying to get to calm down and that’s a day-to-day type thing.”
