The 2025 Valspar Championship is the finale of the four-tournament Florida Swing. It’s also one of the last three events before the Masters. Time is running out for golfers not already invited to Augusta National Golf Club to earn a coveted bid.
More pressing Friday was the grind to make the cut at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Resort.
On the good side of the cutline, which was at 1 over most of the day but jumped to 2 over just as the round was ending, are second-round leader Jacob Bridgeman as well as Viktor Hovland, Ryo Hisatsune and Ben An, all tied at 5 under a shot back. Shane Lowry is tied for fifth at 4 under with Kevin Velo and Xander Schauffele, who made his 60th straight cut, the longest active streak on the PGA Tour. Jordan Spieth made the cut, too. The 2015 Valspar champ is the most recent winner of the tournament who is playing the weekend. Amateur Luke Clanton also made another PGA Tour.
There were 78 players who made the 2-over cut and 18 who finished 3 over.
Notable names who missed the cut at 2025 Valspar Championship
Peter Malnati
The Valspar defending champion shot 73-73 to finish 4-over. He had gone more than eight years and four months between his first two career victories and he’ll have to wait longer for a third.
Sam Burns
A back-to-back Valspar winner in 2021 and 2022, Burns missed the cut in 2025 after rounds of 72-73.
Danny Walker
A week after posting his career-best, a tie for sixth at the Players Championship is his seventh PGA Tour start, Walker was unable to keep it rolling at Innisbrook. He put himself behind the 8-ball with a Thursday 74 and his 1-over 72 on Friday was three shots shy of another a fifth-straight made cut.
Blades Brown
The 17-year-old pro shot 78-71 to miss his third cut in four starts in 2025. He had just one bogey in his Friday round but also only had one birdie to go along with 16 pars.
Kurt Kitayama
Kitayama had the high round of the week (80) which made it really difficult to bounce back but he did shoot a Friday 69. Still, he missed the cut by five shots.
