David Ford may have just taken control of the Fred Haskins trophy at the tournament that bears the Player of the Year award’s name.

Ford, a senior at North Carolina, birdied the first playoff hole to beat Illinois’ Max Herendeen and win the 2025 Augusta Haskins Award Invite at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The duo finished at 12-under 204 over 54 holes of stroke play, and then Ford, the top-ranked player in the NCAA golf rankings, punctuated his fourth win of the season in style.

The Haskins Award is presented to the Player of the Year in men’s college golf, and Ford’s latest victory may go a long way in ensuring his name appears on the trophy next month when the winner is announced. He has lost to one golfer in his last three collegiate starts and is the only Power 4 men’s player with four victories this season.

With his win, Ford also earns an exemption into the PGA Tour’s 3M Open, which takes place in late July at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout finished a shot out of a playoff at 11 under.

In the team competition, old Big 12 foes Texas and Oklahoma State shared the team championship trophy, finishing at 20 under. Stout paced the Cowboys while Eric Lee finished at 5 under and Ethan Fang at 3 under. For Texas, its trio of Christiaan Maas, Daniel Bennett and Tommy Morrison all tied for ninth at 4 under.

Illinois placed third at 15 under while UNC and Notre Dame tied for fourth at 8 under.
