For most of the offseason, it didn’t look like Dallas Goedert was going to be back in 2025.

He was set to enter the final year of his contract that no longer included any guaranteed money and the Eagles wanted him to take a pay cut. Something had to give. It looked like he was going to be traded away from the Super Bowl champs. Instead, the two sides eventually worked out a solution in May.

Goedert and the Eagles agreed on a restructured contract for 2025 that reduced Goedert’s salary from $14 million to $10 million with the potential to earn an extra $1 million in incentives. It was a compromise that just made a lot of sense for both parties.

“I’ve been (through) seven offseasons, and this is the first time I had to deal with it, so I’m pretty lucky,” Goedert said this spring. “But it was an interesting feeling for sure. I’ve been very blessed to sign a good contract here (in 2021).

“I wouldn’t want to play for less, you know what I mean? I feel like I know my value. I feel like the Eagles know my value. And just finding something that I was OK with, a number that I felt excited about, that my time was worth it. There’s a threshold that I felt like I deserved. And we were able to get there.

“It starts with Howie and my agent. I let them talk about it, different things that went on, possibilities of trades, possibility of cuts, things like that. I kind of told my agent what I thought would be best for me, certain numbers that I wanted to have, things like that. And I hired my agent for a reason. I trusted his opinion on stuff, but I kind of told him what I thought I wanted. And he worked that out and got it done.”

Getting Goedert back for the 2025 season means the Eagles will return 10 of 11 starters on offense from their Super Bowl-winning season. And it gives Goedert a chance to bet on himself with a contender this season.

The big issue in Goedert’s career has been his health. While he has routinely returned in time for the postseason, Goedert has missed a lot of games during the regular season during his career. Last year, he was limited to just 10 of 17 games in the regular season. Goedert had 42 catches for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns.

But in the playoffs, Goedert ended up being the Eagles’ leading receiver with 17 catches for 215 yards and 1 touchdown. It was the second-most receiving yards an Eagle has ever had in a single postseason behind just Alshon Jeffery’s 219 in 2017.

In his seven seasons with the Eagles, Goedert has 476 catches, 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns. He’s 10th in franchise history in catches, 13th in yards and 19th in touchdowns. And he’s the Eagles’ all-time leader in playoff receptions (52) and second in receiving yards (562) behind just DeVonta Smith.

While the Eagles were 6-1 in those games without Goedert in the regular season last year, the veteran tight end again proved his worth in the playoffs.

“I’m really excited about this year,” Goedert said. “Obviously, I’d love to play my entire career in Philadelphia, but I’m not too worried about (the future). I’m excited to see what happens this year. Excited to put up a really good year, have a successful year with an incredible team and let my agent handle his job and talks after the season. …

“I’m super stoked to be back here. Got a lot of love for a lot of people in this building. Got a lot of love for Philadelphia. So super glad to be back. And we’ve got high expectations and I want to help us get back to where we were last year.”
