Dale Earnhardt Jr. may have added another impressive chapter to his already legendary racing career Friday night at Florence Motor Speedway.
Making his CARS Tour Pro Late Model debut, Earnhardt Jr. drove his No. 23 GMS Racing machine to a remarkable second-place finish, finishing behind race winner Kaden Honeycutt. Treyton Lapcevich rounded out the podium in third.

For Earnhardt Jr., simply getting behind the wheel was already a major storyline. The NASCAR Hall of Famer and CARS Tour co-owner had competed in Late Model Stock events before, but Friday marked his first-ever start in the CARS Tour’s Pro Late Model division.
Despite entering unfamiliar territory, Earnhardt looked right at home.
The veteran put together a strong run throughout the 100-lap event, keeping his car competitive against a field filled with experienced short-track racers. When the checkered flag flew, Earnhardt had secured a runner-up finish in his first attempt at the division.
Adding another layer to the story was the reunion between Earnhardt and longtime crew chief Tony Eury Jr. Eury Jr., who previously worked with Earnhardt during his NASCAR Cup Series career, called the shots for Friday night’s effort. The two previously teamed up for two Cup Series victories.

While Honeycutt ultimately took the victory, Earnhardt Jr.’s performance quickly became one of the biggest stories of the night.
At 51 years old, Earnhardt continues to show that the competitive fire is still burning. Whether he’s behind the microphone, helping develop young drivers through JR Motorsports, or climbing behind the wheel himself, Dale Jr. continues to find ways to remain involved in the sport he loves.
A second place finish in a Pro Late Model debut is certainly nothing to overlook.
And if Friday night is any indication, fans may not have seen the last of Dale Earnhardt Jr. battling for CARS Tour wins.
