The NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway has become the Kyle Larson Invitational in the last two visits. In the fall race last year at The World’s Fastest Half-Mile, the Hendrick Motorsports driver led 462 of the 500 laps, won both stages and won the race. On Sunday, the 2021 Cup champion led 411 laps, swept both stages and took his second trip to Victory Lane in 2025.
Since the race concluded, there’s been considerable debate about the track and what should happen going forward. But that conversation is not only because of Larson’s dominance, but also the fact that there were only four lead changes the entire race and a single caution for cause. That’s right – one.
Fox analyst and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio personality Larry McReynolds revealed on Monday that there are “rumblings” about potential changes to the track. He didn’t know specifics.
On Thursday, the Frontstretch shared a post on its X account with a proposal for NASCAR’s calendar and visiting the half-mile track in the future: “After a poor showing in Sunday’s Cup race, is it time to drop one of Bristol’s dates from the schedule?”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t sugarcoat how he felt about the question by responding with a GIF from the movie “Big Daddy” and actor Rob Schneider saying, “This is [expletive]!”
Earnhardt has been vocal for years about his love for short tracks and Bristol specifically. His response on X showed that his passion for those types of tracks has not changed despite the Gen 7 car’s lackluster performance on them in recent years.
