Dallas has historically been slow to extend their top talent, with George Pickens being the most recent example. However, with Quinnen Williams’ representative showing up to Dallas’ training camp, it opens the door to the possibility of the Cowboys extending him earlier than expected.
Also, undrafted free-agent signing Michael Trigg has the production to suggest he could make the final 53-man roster. Plus, Pickens continues to impress at camp, and Dallas catches a stray shot during Brees’ Hall of Fame induction.

If the Cowboys want to get it done, they would be better served getting it done early. This is still speculative, but it is a good sign of progress towards retaining Quinnen Williams.
While its not uncommon for agents to check in on their clients, Ft. Worth Star Telegram’s Nick Harris points out how notable it was to see Lynn spend the majority of her time at the session speaking with Adam Prasifka, Cowboys senior director of salary cap and contracts.
While no official details have emerged, the timing is significant. Cowboys COO Stephen Jones told the media during the team’s introductory press conference that Williams was at the top of their list in regards to an extension.
Trigg could be the undrafted player breakout of 2026. There is competition at the position among players, but don’t write off Trigg just yet.
Trigg finished his career with 108 catches for 1,419 yards and 14 touchdowns. In his final season as a Baylor Bear, he showed why he was one of the best tight ends in the country when he had 50 receptions for 694 yards and six touchdowns.
Those are good numbers for a tight end and the yards put him in the top 3 for tight ends in 2025. When those numbers are compared to the college stats of an underachieving tight end on the Dallas Cowboys roster, it should be a no-brainer who the team keeps.
The success of George Pickens’ camp isn’t the surprising part; it’s the fact that he is still impressing despite Dallas’ reluctance to sign him long-term.
Players respond to contract adversity in different ways, sometimes based on personality and sometimes due to circumstances. Dallas certainly had a different experience last year with Micah Parsons, who had no issue making a spectacle of the contract talks or “holding in” during camp.
But given his illustrious four-year run with the Cowboys up to that point, Parsons had a more legitimate beef with the front office. Whereas Dallas arguably saved Pickens’ career from how things went in Pittsburgh, Parsons had carried the defense practically since his rookie year.
The Cowboys continue catching strays, even from players in other divisions. Granted, as far as strays go, this one was tame.
Brees was sharing his appreciation for his former head coach Sean Payton and shaded the Cowboys in doing so. Brees said Payton wanted to soak in the celebration after beating Dallas, where Payton spent three seasons as an assistant coach.
“I miss the three-hour flights home from Dallas to New Orleans after a big win, by the way, that’s supposed to be an hour flight. But Sean would have the pilot circle ten times so we could soak up the celebration,” Brees says.
Hall of Fame weekend passes again, and Dallas does not have an inductee of their own. However, they can at least claim a piece of Drew Brees.
First, former Cowboys Super Bowl winning offensive coordinator Norv Turner was the San Diego head coach in 2001 when the Chargers plucked Brees out of Purdue with the first pick in the second round of the NFL Draft.
The next season and for three more after that with the Chargers, his head coach became Marty Schottenheimer, the father of Cowboys current head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
And for those four seasons, young Brian Schottenheimer became his quarterbacks coach with the Chargers.
The season inches closer. So let’s revisit an iconic 1994 matchup between the Cowboys and a team they have been pestered by for years now.
The matchup showcased two franchises at different stages of their development. Dallas, already the league’s dominant young team, sought to defend its title with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin. Meanwhile, Green Bay, under the guidance of Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre, was beginning its return to relevance.
