Coming in at number six on the Colorado Avalanche Top 25 Under 25 is T.J. Hughes. He is one of the most surprising college free agent pickups since Sam Malinski. The Hobey Baker finalist just finished four years at the University of Michigan, where he played alongside Gavin Brindley. Hughes (no relation to those Hughes brothers) went through his college years undrafted. He helped lead the Wolverines to the Frozen Four tournament in three of four years, but never won the national title. Last season, Hughes and the Wolverines suffered a devastating double overtime loss to the University of Denver in the semifinals. DU went onto to beat the University of Wisconsin for the National Championship.

His 22 goals and 35 assists led the team in route to the tournament at the end of the year. On top of being a Hobey Baker finalist, Hughes was a Big 10 first -team All-Star, Player of the Year, and an All-American.
