WIMBLEDON, LONDON — Coco Gauff gets her Wimbledon 2025 campaign underway against Dayana Yastremska, hoping to follow up her French Open triumph last month with victory on grass.
Gauff has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon though, and must first overcome world No.42, and last year’s Australian Open semifinalist, in a tricky opener.
The pair have met three times with Gauff winning all of those on clay, most recently in the Madrid Open second round this year.
While Gauff comes into this tournament with a second grand slam under her belt, she’ll be well aware of her opponent’s form. The Ukrainian won four matches at the Nottingham Open, falling in the final to McCartney Kessler.
The Sporting News will be providing live updates from No.1 Court as Gauff and Yastremska battle it out for a place in the second round.

No player has come to the net or played a drop shot until Yastremska opts to in the third point here, volleying a winner at close range, 30-15. Yastremska then attempts a slice but it doesn’t clear the net. Back to the powerful forehands from the base line and she gets the hold.

7:35 p.m. BST: Tonight’s match was set to take place on Centre Court but with Alexander Zverev’s game going to five sets and Wimbledon organisers keen to avoid what happened with Taylor Fritz last night, Gauff’s match has been moved to No.1 Court.
7:30 p.m. BST: Hello, and welcome to day two of Wimbledon 2025 with U.S. star Coco Gauff beginning her quest for a third grand slam against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska.
Gauff has already won the French Open this year and comes into the tournament as one of the favourites, but the grass is far from her best and has failed to progress beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon in her young career so far.
