Greeneville needed a playoff to edge Central Magnet of Murfreesboro to claim the program’s first TSSAA state team title in the program’s ninth appearance in the team tournament on Oct. 10 at Sevierville Golf Course.

It marks the second TSSAA Class A state runner-up finish in as many seasons for Central Magnet.

Both teams shot 300 in the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Greeneville’s Kylee Renner and Brylee Catron each shot 10-over par for the tournament to finish tied for fourth. Central Magnet’s Lauren Powell was state runner-up to Springfield’s Elizabeth Prowse with a 6-over par 142 for the tournament.

Prowse show 2-over par (142) for the tournament with a pair of 1-over 71 finishes each round. She tied for 19th in the 2024 TSSAA Class AA state tournament (18-over) before Springfield dropped to Class A this season.

The Christian Academy of Knoxville girls claim 5th title

Christian Academy of Knoxville continued its dominance after winning its fifth TSSAA girls team championship, finishing 14-over par (294) as a team to claim the Division II-A girls team title. Isabella Coughlin led the way for the Warriors, finishing second with a 3-over (143). Coughlin’s teammate, Grady Thomas tied for fifth at 151.

Lakeway Christian came in second, led by Tori Robinson, who was the individual champion with a 9-under 131.

Signal Mountain wins fourth TSSAA boys golf title

Signal Mountain claimed its fourth state title in the boys TSSAA state golf championships, winning the Class A title on Oct. 10 at Sevierville Golf Course. The Eagles finished with a 26-over par (602)

Signal Mountain was led by Sam Otwell, who finished first overall in the individual touanrment at 1-under par (143). He had 11 birdies. Dyer County finished as the state runner-up, 22 shots behind Signal Mountain. David Thurman led the team with a 2-over, 146, for fifth place.

First Baptist Academy boys come out on top

First Baptist Academy won the DII-A boys title with a 14-over par, 590. That was enough to beat Franklin Road Academy by seven shots for the program’s first TSSAA team title in any sport. First Baptist’s Alexander Green tying for third with Battle Ground Academy’s Brady Ray at 4-under (140).

FRA’s Walker Webb was the boys individual champion with a 10-under for the 36-hole tournament. He shot a 7-under par 65 on Oct. 10 to win by four shots over Jackson Christian’s Carson Andreoni.
