Today’s roster move: Here

Tuesday notes…

  • RAINOUT FACTS: Last night’s rainout was the Cubs’ second of the year. They had only two last season, both at home vs. the Brewers, on June 18 and Aug. 18. The last season in which the Cubs had more than three postponements was 2022, when they had four for the second straight season. That was their most since they had eight in 2018. Since 1876, the Cubs have had 1,379 games postponed: 659 at home and 720 on the road. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)

  • THAT FIRST GAME OF A SERIES: The Cubs are 0-5 in first games of series after having lost the final game of the previous series. They are 0-4 on the road on Mondays. Three losses met both criteria: by 6-4 at Tampa on April 6, by 9-7 at San Diego on April 27 and by 2-1 at Pittsburgh on May 25. The loss to the Pirates was the only one that followed a series-ending loss at home, as happened Saturday. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)

  • RUN SCORING UPDATE: The Cubs have scored 30 runs in their last three games: eight, 16 and six. That is the second most they have scored in a span of three games this season, behind 33, April 14-17: 10, 11 and 12. The first two were wins at Philadelphia; the third, a win at home vs. the Mets. Their third most in games not overlapping any in the spans in which they scored 33 and 30 were just 22, three times: April 21-23, May 6-8 and May 27-29. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)

  • TODAY IN CUBS HISTORY: A sacrifice fly by Chris Denorfia scored Matt Szczur in the bottom of the 10th to break a scoreless tie and give the Cubs a 1-0 walk-off win over the Dodgers. It happened 11 years ago today, Tuesday, June 23, 2015. (Yes, I know today is the anniversary of The Sandberg Game. But everyone knows that. Thought I’d give you a different, lesser-known Cubs walk-off win.)

The Cubs lineup was not available at posting time. Please check BCB social media for the Cubs lineup.
