In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been revealed that the Blues are keen on acquiring the English midfield ace’s services this summer.

Wharton’s Impressive Season In English Football

The 22-year-old enjoyed another solid campaign at the London club after producing a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. Wharton deserves credit for scoring one goal and securing eight assists in 53 matches for the Eagles last season across multiple competitions.

The English talent is currently one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. Hence, he would be a massive signing for the Blues if they can devise a way to get him on board this summer.

His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Will Wharton Be A Good Fit For Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso?

Wharton is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.

The English sensation usually generates a lot of power with his shot attempts and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. Wharton is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Stamford Bridge.

We can expect Wharton to enhance the quality of Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s midfield. He is good enough to nail down a regular starting role at the West London club in the coming years.

At 22, Wharton has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be an excellent fit for Alonso’s needs this summer. Furthermore, Wharton would serve as an ideal replacement for Enzo Fernandez if the Blues end up parting ways with him this summer.
