Cheaper, But With Fewer Features

• Ford will cut the starting price of several Bronco Sport and Maverick trims for the 2027 model year.
• Maverick EcoBoost models see the sharpest price reductions.

Labor Day car deals are almost upon us, folks, but Ford aims to jump the gun on some models with a more direct sales slash tactic. Both the Bronco Sport and Maverick have lower starting prices for the 2027 model year.

On its face, that’s great news for car shoppers. But there’s always a catch, right? For the Bronco Sport, not every trim sees a reduction, and not every reduction is that exciting. On the Maverick, the price cuts are stronger, but the availability of the EcoBoost model will be reduced as well.

Bronco Sport Price Shift

According to CarsDirect, the largest price cut for the 2027 Bronco Sport will be $505. That’s on the Badlands trim. While that sounds great, some formerly standard features now become optional extras. On the Badlands, this includes a shift from power-adjustable to manual seats, and the loss of the auto-dimming rearview mirror.

All trim levels of the 2027 Bronco Sport also lose the Auto Start-Stop technology. That news will actually prove quite welcome to many buyers, even though overall fuel economy will likely dip as a result.

Less EcoBoost Options For The 2027 Maverick

Ford will reduce the number of trims available with the EcoBoost powertrain for the 2027 model year Maverick. The XL will now be hybrid only, and will retain the same starting price as the prior year. There’s no more EcoBoost option for the Lariat, as well.

Instead, Maverick EcoBoost shoppers will have to select from the XLT with all-wheel drive, the Lobo, or the Tremor. But the price cuts for the Maverick are stronger than those for the Bronco Sport, with no notable reductions in standard features.

We’re still waiting to hear pricing for the Maverick Lariat and a few other trims. But the initial numbers for the 2027 Maverick are primarily good news. There’s still much more news to come, of course, as Ford prepares to roll out its upcoming Fathom EV.

We’re also waiting to hear more about a potential Bronco pickup truck.

Motor1’s Take: The Bronco Sport’s pricing and feature reductions aren’t great news, but Ford needs to find ways to move more of them. Meanwhile, the Maverick price drop could be a boon to shoppers looking for an affordable and efficient option. Not one model will start over $40,000, outside of one equipped with the upgraded SV300T package.
