Although she’s a member of the Ladies European Tour, Spaniard Nuria Iturrioz has had her share of shining moments on this side of the pond.
In 2023, Iturrioz won the team event at the Aramco Team Series’ event in West Palm Beach with Pauline Roussin and Trish Johnson. She was even holding the lead in the individual event by a stroke heading into the last day (although she blew up with an 83 to fall well down the leaderboard).
And on Sunday, the 29-year-old surged to a solid 68, fending off Charley Hull and her countrymate Carlota Ciganda to take her first title in two years. capturing the 2025 Aramco Houston Championship by two strokes.
Iturrioz used birdies on three of her final five holes to secure the victory, which marks the biggest win of her career.
“I’m really happy. I can’t explain my feelings. I’m really glad I have this trophy,” Iturrioz said. “With my caddie, we have been working a lot throughout the year, and we have been up there a couple of times, but this win is for him also.
“It’s been tough this year, I have been up there four times trying to win. It was hard to get the win. It was great to have Charley, Mimi (Rhodes) and Carlota pushing at the top of the leaderboard.”
Hull, who has been battling injuries, finished tied with Ciganda for second place at 11 under par at Golfcrest Country Club.
It was a strong opening for Hull, as she rolled in three straight birdies to start the day, and although she didn’t reach the winner’s circle, she was happy with a round of 67.
“I played A-1 golf all day, I played really well, and I hit some nice shots coming in,” Hull said. “I made a good par on the last, I was trying to go for the putt, but it didn’t break.
“Especially with my injury and coming back, I didn’t think I’d play well this week, so I’m happy with my result. It’s not enough today, but I’m looking forward to Cincinnati next week.”
The LPGA takes center stage again next week with the Kroger City Championship in Cincinnati.
