What seemed like a Jake Paul pipe dream appears to be on the verge of coming to fruition.

The Youtuber-turned-boxer has already been involved in some big fights, but reports are now claiming Paul has landed his biggest fish yet: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Having broken streaming records with his recent bout against Mike Tyson, the 28-year-old will be licking his lips at the prospect of a Canelo-assisted pay day.

Here’s what we know:

Canelo vs. Jake Paul fight date and location revealed

According to ESPN‘s Mike Coppinger, the pair are in the final stages of negotiations for a fight in Las Vegas this year.

Set to go down at T-Mobile Arena on May 3, the fight will reportedly see Canelo step up to cruiserweight, which has a 200-pound limit.

The Mexican currently fights at super middleweight (168lbs), having held world titles across four divisions, the lightest being super welterweight (154lbs).

In 2022, Canelo stepped up to 175lbs to challenge for Dmitry Bivol’s light heavyweight strap but was unsuccessful.

Prior to his fight with Tyson, which saw Paul come in at 228lbs, his previous three fights were at cruiserweight.

The Ohio native, who is now based out of Puerto Rico, has a professional record of 11-1, having beaten several former MMA stars including Tyron Woodley twice, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Mike Perry, while his one defeat came at the hands of Tommy Fury.

As for Canelo, he boasts a formidable 62-2-2 record and is considered a great of the modern era, with his only losses coming courtesy of Bivol and Floyd Mayweather, back in 2013.

While Canelo will be giving away significant size to Paul, his experience, pedigree and resume is far superior and he will be expected to win the bout, even at 34 and with a heap of mileage on the clock.

It remains to be seen what this development means for a potential superfight with Terence Crawford, which had been in negotiations before reportedly falling apart earlier this week.

Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh had been pushing to make that fight, with Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegs floated as a possible landing spot. However, a further update from Coppinger has seemingly suspended efforts – for now at least – to finalise Canelo – Crawford.

A bout between Crawford and IBF welterweight champ Jaron “Boots” Ennis is now reportedly being pursued.
