When the Montreal Canadiens’ camp kicked off, there was an important part of the defense corps missing, Kaiden Guhle who had just undergone an appendectomy. The newly long-term signed defenseman missed most of training camp, but when he got on the ice, it didn’t show.

Through five games, he has already blocked 20 shots and, even though he’s not known as an offensive dynamo, he has gathered four points in five games. What Martin St-Louis loves about the young man though is his consistency.

On the fact that he’s injured and he has to find a way to replace him, the coach said:

There are players that are hard to replace by just another player, you have to replace them by committee. There are players who will play more because of that, it’s replacing him by committee.

The way St-Louis speaks, throughout his lineup, Guhle is the guy he can trust to play well:

With Guhles, you know what you’re going to get every game. Obviously he’s got a very high ceiling, but what I like the most about him is how high his floor is. You know what I mean? The difference between a so-so game from Guhles and a good game isn’t that big. That’s great from a coach, you know what you’re getting form a guy. You don’t know if you’re going to have his A game, but is B game is very good and his C game is pretty good too.

High praise indeed from the coach there. Hopefully, Guhles isn’t out for too long as the Canadiens will miss him dearly.
