Bryson DeChambeau is at the forefront of advancing golf technology.

As many players, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, are trying to walk back technology in the sport to save traditional golf courses and prevent par fours from being turned into par fives, DeChambeau wants to go the other way.

The American has made clear that he wants to push advancements as far as they can possibly go. He claims that fans want to see what golfers are capable of with the very best technology.

DeChambeau, who is currently leading LIV Singapore, said he is bringing something to the course very soon which will help his unique playstyle.

Bryson DeChambeau calls for advancement in golf technology

DeChambeau’s game is centred around his rapid swing speed, as he looks to overpower golf courses with his long-hitting style. This can lead to wayward shots and poor spin control, especially with his wedges.

Instead of trying to rein in his swing to manage those misses, DeChambeau is bringing some new tech to the golf course, which will allow him to continue to swing hard.

Speaking to reporters at LIV Singapore, the two-time major winner said, “Golf isn’t about hitting it 400 yards. I proved that a couple years ago. You’ve got to have a good wedge game, good putting, good iron play. So there is a balance.

“But I’m never not pursuing how to swing it faster or have it come off the face faster and then learn how to control it. That’s kind of my goal. I always go to how hard can I swing it, and then how do a back off of that. It’s just my mentality. So I’ll forever be pursuing a little bit of speed as time goes on.

“This golf course, you can’t swing it hard out here. You can hit it far, but you have to control your ball more than you can kind of just bomb it and let it go wherever. Fairways are tight.

“I’ll forever be chasing speed. Hopefully the technology can catch up with where our swing speeds are going because right now, any minor mis-hit can make the ball go quite a bit off line. That’s why I’ve got what I’m using now, then working on some stuff, as well, to see if there’s any improvements to be made from what I have now, and we’ll see where the future takes us.

“I’m excited to unveil some special stuff here soon. I’ve been talking about it for a while, but we just don’t have anything that’s as good as it needs to be yet.”

We don’t know exactly what this “special stuff” will be, but we have an idea after what DeChambeau told us at The Open Championship last year.

Bryson DeChambeau is bringing a new golf ball to the course

DeChambeau’s push for new technology was first spotted at Royal Portrush last year, where he was seen on the range practising with a new golf ball.

He explained to reporters, “Look, I’m working with somebody that’s going to get me a ball that works better for my speeds. Hopefully there’s some more improvements to be made there. That’s something I hope to complete in the next year.

“I need help out here. I hit it way too high. I’ve tried to lower my flight but I compress down on it really hard and the thing just… I spin it like crazy, and then on my wedges I don’t spin it. Launches high with no spin.

“I’m working on a few things that’ll help get that launch down while controlling the spin so it’s more predictable out of my wedge shots.

“That’s what I was kind of working on and seeing if there was a more stable ball in windy conditions early in the week. There’s not.

“But I’m working with somebody that I’ve already seen improvements on. It’s just not ready to be released, unfortunately. They can’t make enough as quickly as they’d like.

“But it’s coming; it’ll be here, worst case scenario September, but an iteration of it in the next couple weeks. Not in time for this week, but I’m going to give it my all this weekend.”

Maybe this is what DeChambeau is going to be bringing to the course in the near future.
