As the Philadelphia Phillies trailed the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLDS on Monday, they were met with a handful of boos from their home crowd.
After falling into a 2-0 deficit in the series, Bryce Harper understands why the fans in Philadelphia sent boos towards him and his teammates.
“We’ve got some of the best fans in baseball and they make me play better, so I enjoy it,” Harper told reporters. “They show up for us every day. They spend their hard-earned dollar to come watch us play; they expect greatness out of us and I expect greatness out of myself and my teammates as well.”
The Phillies haven’t given their fans greatness so far, dropping Game 1 5-3 before losing Monday’s contest 4-3.
In Game 2, the Dodgers scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-0 lead, which sparked some of the reaction from the crowd. Philadelphia responded by cutting it to a one-run game in the bottom of the ninth, but it didn’t have enough to complete the comeback.
Now the Phillies will go on the road for Game 3, where they will receive boos from Dodgers fans rather their own. They’ll look to avoid elimination and redeem themselves to their fans.
