Brooks Koepka has explained why returning to the PGA Tour has been slightly overwhelming for him, as he suggested that he is considering a club he had not even seen before the end of last year.

Koepka has been a brilliant addition to the PGA Tour this season, with the five-time major champion often adding real star power to some of the full-field events on the calendar.

And there have been glimpses of his quality along the way. Koepka is third on the PGA Tour for strokes gained approach, while he finished inside the top 15 at both The Players Championship and The Masters.

Brooks Koepka reflects on the changes to the PGA Tour since his return

The game is still awaiting the moment when it all clicks and Koepka gets his first PGA Tour victory since 2021.

But it would appear that he is still finding his feet following his return from LIV Golf ahead of the 2026 season.

Koepka is in the field for the CJ CUP Byron Nelson this week. And ahead of the event at TPC Craig Ranch, the 36-year-old spoke about readjusting to life back on the PGA Tour.

He also suggested that he is considering testing out a mini driver.

“Yeah, it’s totally different, like I said, just to have so many options, it’s maybe a little bit overwhelming, at the same time, because access to equipment trucks, grip changes, things like that, sometimes I wasn’t privy to over the last four, five years. During majors was kind of the only time you saw it,” he said.

“So to be back out here and have the opportunity if you need to make a slight change in something, it’s a whole lot easier, or you damage a club during play, to get a replacement, a shaft change, whatever it might be.

“Just more access to everything, I think, has been a huge advantage. I’m not going to do too much of that. I know I keep changing the putter pretty much every week now, but as far as the rest of the equipment that I have, I’m very satisfied with it. I’m very, very pleased with it.

“Maybe during the off-season start doing a little bit of testing just because all of these options now are out there. Like the mini driver, it feels like a PGA Tour club because I never saw it until maybe the end of last year. I watched guys hit it. It’s only out here. I haven’t seen many other guys use it.

“Yeah, looking at that, it’s funny, I was talking to Shane Lowry at Zurich about it, and Augusta kind of suits it to the ground. Like you look at one, it might be a perfect hole for that mini driver, two, five, seven, nine is kind of perfect for it, 10. You can go down the list. Just little things like that, I guess, broadens your capabilities of options.”

How Brooks Koepka has performed at TPC Craig Ranch ahead of the CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Koepka is something of a wildcard this week. The field is far from the strongest that you will see on the PGA Tour, with just a handful of the biggest names teeing it up.

Scottie Scheffler is, understandably, the heavy favourite. He won this event by eight shots last year, finishing the week on 31 under par.

Koepka, meanwhile, has only played one event at TPC Craig Ranch during his career. Back in 2021, he missed the cut at what was then known as the AT&T Byron Nelson after opening up with rounds of 71 and 70.

He did manage to win the CJ Cup back in 2018, though that event was held in South Korea.

It could really transform his season if he manages to find that extra gear Koepka most definitely has in the next couple of weeks.
