Brooke Henderson thought she might have a soda pop to celebrate her second national title. The 27-year-old revealed after her victory at the CPKC Women’s Open that she hadn’t had a pop in years.
“Either Sprite or Fanta orange,” she said of her beverage of choice. “Those things are good. Maybe both.”
Henderson’s 14th LPGA win was a long time coming. She waited just over two years and seven months between titles. While she had a trio of third-place finishes in 2024, Henderson’s last runner-up finish dates back to the summer of 2023.
At Mississaugua Golf and Country Club, Henderson got a few good breaks from the trees but, with a new putter in the bag, she also drained some clutch putts down the stretch to clip three-time major winner Minjee Lee by one stroke.
The LPGA’s KPMG Performance Insights from the final round in Canada revealed an enviable note on Canada’s finest: She’s the best closer on the LPGA over the past decade.
Henderson’s one-stroke victory in Ontario put her 9-for-12 in converting a 54-hole lead/co-lead since 2015. That’s a 75 percent winning percentage.
Minjee Lee, Ariya Jutanugarn and Sei Young Kim have also led or co-led a dozen times over the past decade and have a 66.7 winning percentage.
“It feels super surreal still,” said Henderson, who birdied three of her last six holes on Sunday. “When I won in 2018 I woke up Monday morning thinking I still had to play the final round, so I’m wondering if that nightmare will happen again tomorrow.”
