Kyle Whittingham and the University of Utah football program have announced that offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Andy Ludwig has stepped down as the offensive coordinator of Utah football.

The change comes after the Utes’ third straight loss of the season, the worst losing streak for the program since the 2017 season. While the losses have been due to multiple aspects of the team, one of the biggest issues has been the lack of offensive production and predictable playcalling.

Whittingham made the announcement in a statement saying:

“Assistant coach Andy Ludwig has made the decision to step down from his position with Utah Football. Andy is the consummate professional and we want to thank him for his complete dedication to our program during his 10 total seasons with us. Coach Ludwig has been instrumental to our success here at Utah and personally, I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Andy as both a coach and a person. We wish him nothing but the best in all of his future endeavors.”

While there is no official announcement yet, all signs point to Senior Offensive Analyst and Quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian as the interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Ludwig’s second stint at Utah was filled with some extremely high moments such as conference championship appearances in 2019, 2021, and 2022. His offense was able to win Utah two Pac-12 Championships and earn two Rose Bowl berths.

But his time was also filled with some extreme lows such as last season and every game this season except the season opener. His predictable nature in play calling made the Utah offense one of the easiest to game plan against.

Utah will now have six days to start to get the offense into a better position before they head to the state of Texas and take on Houston.
