The Mets beat the Nationals, 7-0, on Friday afternoon as their spring training slate continued.


Here are the takeaways…

Brandon Sproat was dominant during 2.0 perfect innings as he featured a fastball that sat between 95 mph and 99 mph, to go along with a cutter, changeup, curve, and slider.

In the first inning, Sproat induced ground outs from James Wood, Amed Rosario, and Jose Tena.

In the second inning, Sproat got Keibert Ruiz to ground out and Alex Call to line out before striking Robert Hassell III out swinging on a 98.6 mph four-seam fastball.

Sproat is expected to open the season with Triple-A Syracuse, but could be a rotation option for New York during the first half of the season.

Juan Soto smacked a two-run, opposite field homer in the second inning. It was his second homer of spring training. He finished 1-for-3 and has a 1.569 OPS this spring.

Brandon Nimmo, who was playing his first game of the spring, drew a walk his first time up. He got one more at-bat before being given the rest of the day off as he eases his way in.

Francisco Lindor ripped a single to right field in his first at-bat and had an infield single his third time up. Lindor finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pete Alonso ripped a double and finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored. He’s hitting .500 with a 1.727 OPS this spring.

– Luisangel Acuña got the start at second base and chopped an infield single to shortstop in the fifth inning. Acuña is in competition with Brett Baty and others for a spot on the bench.

Jose Butto worked around a single and walk to toss 1.0 scoreless inning.

Huascar Brazoban, who is competing for a spot in the bullpen, twirled 1.0 perfect inning.

Jett Williams entered in the sixth inning and had an infield single to third base his first time up. Williams drew a four-pitch walk his second and final time up.
