The 2027 Ryder Cup is some way away, but there is already a major difference between the preparation of Team Europe and the United States.

Looking to defend their title at Adare Manor next year, Europe have decided to appoint Luke Donald as captain for the third successive tournament.

He was the man in charge for both the 2023 and 2025 Ryder Cups, and on both occasions guided Team Europe to success.

Zach Johnson and Keegan Bradley were the respective captains of the US teams, who suffered damaging defeats to their fierce rivals in Rome and New York.

It remains to be seen who will take on the high-pressure role next, but Brandel Chamblee is adamant about the next US Ryder Cup captain.

Brandel Chamblee says Justin Leonard should be the US Ryder Cup captain

Never afraid to speak his mind, Chamblee spotted a post on social media showing Donald and his vice captain Edoardo Molinari at Adare Manor, with the caption: “The work starts here.”

And reacting to the note that the US Team currently has no idea about who will captain them, Chamblee posted on X: “It should be Justin Leonard.”

The 53-year-old is currently playing on the PGA Tour Champions, and will line out at the Senior PGA Championship this week.

What is Justin Leonard’s Ryder Cup record?

Leonard is a 12-time PGA Tour winner, most notably winning The Open Championship at Royal Troon in 1997.

Recovering from a huge five-shot deficit after 54 holes, the American earned a three-shot win over Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik.

But he has also represented the US three times at the Ryder Cup, picking up a 2-4-6 record from his 12 matches.

He won in two out of his three appearances, claiming five points for his side.

Notably, Leonard was involved in one of the most memorable Ryder Cup moments ever, when the US produced the biggest final-day comeback of all-time.

They came from four points back to defeat Europe 14.5-13.5 at Brookline in 1999, with Leonard claiming the crucial half-point with a lengthy putt on the 17th.
