Then came Alexander Isak. The Swede is now the most expensive player in British football history and looks destined to be one of Liverpool’s truly great no.9s.
The Reds even made some extraordinary sales in the window, getting £10m for Trent Alexander-Arnold despite the fact he only had a month left on his contract. Or getting £35m for Jarell Quansah and a buyback clause.
It’s been brilliant, quite honestly, as Richard Hughes and co. perform minor miracles. But their best and most important deal might be next.
TalkSport reports that Liverpool will hand a new contract to Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutchman has been world-class for the last year-and-a-bit now, catapulting him into the truly elite bracket of midfielders.
It’s a far cry from the player Liverpool bought. Gravenberch struggled for any minutes with Bayern Munich and many were against taking a £35m chance on the player.
Jurgen Klopp had him playing well but Arne Slot has transformed his compatriot into a sensational holding midfielder. One who is proving decisive in big games.
