Denmark obliterated Belarus to rack up their positive goal difference and maintain their narrow advantage over Scotland at the top of Group C in World Cup qualifying.

Victor Froholdt opened the scoring for the Danes in Hungary after just 14 minutes, with Manchester United’s loaned out forward Rasmus Hojlund getting his first of two goals five minutes later.

After the on-loan Napoli man scored again just before the break, United’s Patrick Dorgu still had time to make it four by half-time.

Denmark took their foot off the gas in the second period with Anders Dreyer also scoring two to complete the rout.

Brian Riemer’s side, who had 24 attempts and 839 passes during the game, lie in first spot with a five-goal cushion over the Scots.

They host Greece next as Scotland welcome pointless Belarus to Glasgow as the race for an automatic place at next summer’s World Cup increasingly looking like coming down to the two final fixture rounds next month.
