During the summer, Real Madrid were strongly linked with a blockbuster move for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise. He was the club’s leading target to complete their attack, but once a deal was ultimately ruled out, Yan Diomande was signed instead.
Despite this, Real Madrid do not rule out trying to sign Olise again in the future. Bayern were not willing to sell in the summer, but there is a chance that a deal could be possible – as early as 2027. Had the player himself pushed for an exit in 2026, perhaps the situation would have played into the Bernabeu club’s hands, but that was not the case – although Bayern sporting director Max Eberl feared the worst at one stage, as he told BILD (via MD).

“Michael wrote me a WhatsApp during the World Cup. I hesitated for a moment before opening it. I didn’t know if maybe he was really going to talk to me about that subject. But it was a photo with Manu Kone, whom I signed for Gladbach in his day, with a heart underneath. They both sent me greetings from the United States. Then I asked Michael if he wanted to wear the number 11 shirt next season, but he wanted to keep the number 17. That was my contact with Michael, so everything was always in order.”
Eberl: Bayern will try to renew Olise’s contract
Eberl also confirmed that efforts will be made on Bayern’s part to tie Olise down to a new contract before the end of the 2026-27 season.
“Michael has had an extraordinary evolution with us. In due course we will sit down and talk about how to continue. He still has three years left on his contract, and I want to emphasise: no termination clause. I will say it like this: between now and next summer we should know if there is a tendency on his part to renew or not.”
