Despite negotiations being ongoing for several weeks, Ansu Fati’s (22) prospective move from Barcelona to AS Monaco has yet to be concluded. The Catalan club’s sporting director, Deco, has now addressed the foward’s future.
Fati, who has featured sparingly for Barcelona and struggled during a loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion during the 2023/24 season, is looking to get his career back on track. Monaco are providing the Spaniard that possibility, however, the Principality club are looking to take the player on loan, with a purchase option, rather than on a permanent basis.
L’Équipe reported earlier this week that Barcelona’s preference for a permanent transfer was the main reason that the deal was being held up. However, Deco has now said that Fati is likely to leave this summer and on a loan deal. “With his age and career, Fati can’t stay without playing […] if he leaves, it will be on a loan,” he said in comments transcribed by Fabrizio Romano.
That will suit Monaco, who will now look to conclude a deal. The percentage of Fati’s salary paid by Les Monégasques may also be a sticking point, given the Spaniard’s high wages. Monaco are less pressed to immediately conclude a deal, with Maghnes Akliouche no nearer to the exit door.
