Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has shared his thoughts on the team’s chances of winning the UEFA Champions League this season, stressing that the road to European glory requires patience and consistency.

The forward spoke about the competition during a conversation with Brazilian football legend Romario on his YouTube channel.

Notably, the interview was recorded before Barcelona’s round of 16 first-leg clash with Newcastle United, which eventually ended in a draw.

Despite Barcelona’s strong performances this season, Lewandowski made it clear that winning the Champions League is never straightforward.

The Polish striker emphasised that the tournament is extremely demanding and that many challenges still lie ahead for any team hoping to lift the trophy.

“Winning the Champions League is, of course, not easy. Even if you think you’re in good shape and the team is doing well, there are still many games to play,” he began saying.

More on the matter

For the veteran forward, the conversation about lifting the trophy should only begin once the team has reached the most decisive stages of the tournament.

Until then, he believes it is more important for the squad to stay focused on each round.

“I think we can talk about winning the Champions League if we’re playing in the semi-finals, because before that it doesn’t make sense.”

The striker also highlighted how unpredictable football can be, particularly in knockout competitions where a single match can dramatically change a team’s situation.

“A lot can happen in football. A week can change a lot,” he said.

Because of this unpredictability, Lewandowski believes Barcelona must remain consistent throughout the season and maintain their performance level as the campaign progresses.

“We try to maintain our high level until the end of the season.”

Staying fit is necessary

Another major factor the striker mentioned was the importance of keeping the squad healthy.

Injuries can often play a decisive role during the final stages of major competitions, and Lewandowski hopes Barcelona can avoid such setbacks.

“I hope we don’t have many injuries and that we can all be on the field for the most important part of the season,” he explained.

Finally, the forward concluded by highlighting what he believes ultimately determines success in competitions like the Champions League.

“In football, it is also important to be in the right place at the right time and to perform well,” he concluded.
